Continuous Facial Affect Recognition from Videos
نویسندگان
چکیده
The interpretation of user facial expressions is a very useful method for emotional sensing and constitutes an indispensable part of affective HCI designs. This paper proposes an effective system for continuous facial affect recognition from videos. The system operates in a continuous 2D emotional space, characterized by evaluation and activation factors, enabling a wide range of intermediary affective states to be worked with. It makes use, for each video frame, of a classification method able to output the exact location (2D point coordinates) of the still facial image in that space. It also exploits the Kalman filtering technique to control the 2D point movement along the affective space over time and to improve the robustness of the method by predicting its future locations in cases of temporal facial occlusions or inaccurate tracking. The system has been tuned with an extensive universal database and preliminary evaluation results are very encouraging.

Facial expression recognition in continuous videos using linear discriminant analysis
In this paper, we address the recognition of facial expressions in continuous videos. We introduce a viewand textureindependent approach that exploits facial action parameters estimated by an appearance-based 3D tracker. We represent the learned facial actions associated with different facial expressions by time series. These time series are then efficiently and compactly represented in Eigensp...

متن کاملAssociation Between Facial Affect Recognition and Maladaptive Schema in People With Depressive Symptoms
Objective: Depressed patients harbor maladaptive schemas that distort social reality and impaired facial expression recognition. Thus, this study aims at identifying specific associations among depressive symptoms, early maladaptive schemas, and patterns of for recognizing facially expressed emotions. Methods: 100 subjects diagnosed with depressive symptoms were selected from a larger statisti...
متن کاملChanging facial affect recognition in schizophrenia: Effects of training on brain dynamics
Deficits in social cognition including facial affect recognition and their detrimental effects on functional outcome are well established in schizophrenia. Structured training can have substantial effects on social cognitive measures including facial affect recognition. Elucidating training effects on cortical mechanisms involved in facial affect recognition may identify causes of dysfunctional...
متن کاملA Dynamic Approach for Detecting Naturalistic Affective States from Facial Videos during HCI
Significant progress has been made in automatic facial expression analysis using facial images and videos. The recognition reliability of most current approaches is still poor in naturalistic expressions compared to acted ones. Most of these methods use a static image of each expression that captures the characteristic image at the apex. However, according to psychologists, analyzing a sequence...
